Transition

The end of an era,
Faint stirrings of the next.
Expectation and excitement;
Passion put to test.

What is to come?
What do I want?
Imposition no more,
Only choices galore!

You Don't See Me

I don't see you,
Is that what you think?
I have eyes for no other,
But I've come to the brink.

I am tired and weary
Of waiting for you
To look once again
And see what I do.

Too long I suppressed,
The flame burns low.
Too long a stranger now,
My heart I no more know.

The Spanish Chest

The light in her eyes
That he longed to see,
He never could ignite
Though he tried constantly.

For her heart was another's,
For Him it sighed.
Whenever they gathered,
She flew to His side.

Through thick and thin
Staunchly he stayed,
Till came the day
That she looked his way.

He held his breath,
Now would she see?
"My dear Henry,
How can this be?"

Sadly she laughed,
Softly he asked,
"Why Madeleine,
What do you mean?"

But never again
Did he look upon her,
His time was up,
He would stay no longer.

Thus ended the tale
Of what couldn't be.
'Tis a pity she didn't
Say "Bide a wee".

Love

Right now I think
You are the most wonderful person
In the world.

Soon I'll know you better,
And know better myself
Than to put you on a pedestal.

But by then
I'll also be crazy fond of you,
So I guess it won't matter.

I'll still love you,
Just as much as ever.
If not more.

Mirage

For hours on end I gazed,
Fascinated by a reflection of life.
For the colours were brighter,
More beautiful than life itself.

By and by, to an end it came,
As everything needs must.
End of the hours I looked around,
With disoriented disgust.

Where had I been? Where was I now?
What had been, and what must now?
Awhile I pondered, then threw up my hands,
Oh how does it matter, here I am!

The Fisherman and his Soul

The sun sank low, and the stars shone bright,
Time for the mermaids to come out night.
How pretty they were, pearls of the sea!
That many a man vied to receive.

A snack, a shack, a fly-by-night,
Three witches gambolled out of sight.
The moon they hunt with a witching wand,
Frightened, she dove in a fishing pond.

'Ere the break of dawn, the spell was broke,
All shaken awake, 'What happened?' they croak.
But no one's to know, for who could tell
Why the moon lay in the wishing well.

You said a pond, but now it's a well,
Oh go your way, I'll say what I say.
When the moon rises, pretty and vain,
Then we resolve, if her will's to deign.

Atlantis

The sound of your footsteps was music to my ears,
Alas they receded, I was left with my tears..
Three score and ten I have waited in vain
I scarce remember naught but the pain.

But hark, what is it I hear?
A footstep, beloved and you are here!
Back to claim your sceptre from me
That night and day a burden heavy.

Again we meet, I surrender to thee.
How I have pined and waited to see,
Once more the hills of the dale I left,
When I vowed to follow thy lead.

But now you have come and I can leave,
To feel again my heart is free,
All that suppressed all these years,
Lay quiescent - suppressed, unheard.

The burden was mine, I shouldered it gamely,
The fruit you have have seen, don't you agree?
Now it is done, I ring the bell,
I ask no reward, only bid you fare well.

Acceptance

I feel the heat but not the warmth;
We are indifferent, yet expectant.
Full circle and two steps,
Hello there! We meet again.

For years I've only heard of this,
Now it's come and it's not bliss.
But I asked, and I received,
I thank thee (I do not deceive).

The words they flow,
Merry as you please.
What do they mean,
Do you seek to appease?

Never mind, I ask for nothing,
Not even answers, they mean so little.
My questions at last have ceased,
Lower your defences, rest in peace.
